Management

Most private timberlands are growing less than half of the income they could. If you own rural land with trees, you own a forest. Even open land, like an unused pasture, is usually suitable for growing trees.

Managing timber is much like managing any crop. Depending on the condition of your stand, you might benefit from:
  • planting or otherwise renewing your forest stand by reforestation
  • thinning to allow remaining trees more room for growth
  • selective tree removal to "weed out" undesirable trees
  • tree harvesting to generate income and to restore the health and vigor of your stand
We can determine your individual needs by discussing your short and long term management goals. In addition, we will inventory your timberland to determine its quality and value. We will recommend management alternatives based on the property's assets and potential uses.

After determining your needs, we can further assist you by:
  • improving poor timber stands
  • conducting prescribed burns to reduce natural fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and create an open understory
  • integrating timber management with wildlife habitat enhancement and recreational development
  • preventing or controlling harmful insects and diseases
  • establishing desirable shade and ornamental trees to improve aesthetics
  • boundary line maintenance
  • manipulating species composition to attract wildlife to the property
  • conducting damage appraisals
  • conducting survival audits
  • conducting court-appointed appraisals
Typically, with a long-term management plan, we provide a complete inventory and analysis of a landowner's forest, forestry and wildlife management recommendations, harvest and reforestation schedules and any other assistance necessary to help realize forestry goals.
